Rotational moulding, also known as rotomoulding, is an efficient moulding technique for the manufacture of hollow plastic products. The process begins with specially developed powdered polymer that is loaded into a custom mould cavity. The mould is heated whilst rotating on two axes at low speed, creating a tumbling action to evenly distribute the polymer across the walls of the mould. As the heat penetrates the mould, the resin adheres to the mould's inner surface until it is completely fused. The complete part is cooled and removed from the mould. The part is then ready for assembly.
An increasing number of products and components that have traditionally been manufactured in metal or fibreglass are being converted to a rotomoulded option that are durable and more cost effective to manufacture, transport and install.
Rotational moulding is best suited for large, hollow parts. Products we have produced using this method include:
- Floats
- Bins
- Lids
- Tanks
- Drums
- Containers
- Concrete Moulds
- Barriers
- Cable Guards
- Mudguards
- Hoppers
- Pile Caps
- Kayaks
- Pits & Risers
- Hardcases
Rotamould manufactures products in a number of grades of polyethylene suitable for the product's design purpose. Rotamould manufactures in both virgin material and recycled material as required.
Polyethylene can be manufactured in a number of colours to suit customer requirements. The material is self-coloured, meaning that the colour is throughout the material. This means that the colour does not come off when scratched like paint or other surface colouring options do. Colours can be chosen from our custom blends or they can be mixed to your specifications.
